Joyce Calls on Biden Administration to Return to American Energy

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives calling on President Biden to return to baseload American power sources including coal and natural gas, amid record heat waves that could trigger rolling blackouts across the country.

As a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Joyce said he is committed to returning to American energy dominance by returning to the domestic manufacturing of energy sources including oil, coal, and natural gas.

“It has become abundantly clear that solar panels and windmills cannot produce the power needed to keep the lights on and keep air conditioners running,” said Joyce. “Now is the time to ensure that we are using the resources we have here at home to serve the American people.”

Temporary power outages, known as rolling blackouts, could occur when the demand for electricity outpaces the available supply.

These blackouts are a tool used by grid operators to make sure that sensitive equipment is shutdown safely; however, these blackouts can have severe impacts on people and businesses including infants, seniors, hospitals, and emergency services.
