HAGERSTOWN – LocalNews1 has partnered with The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack to bring you a story every Monday taken from current or past editions of the Almanack. First published in 1797, it’s the second oldest almanac in the United States and has been in continuous publication for 230 years and is the only almanac in the United States still published by the founders’ direct descendants.
When you think about the Almanack, your first thought may not be “what can it tell me about the internet?”
Well, surprising as it may be, there is a section called “The Internet Connection.” Here are a few tips that you will find in the 2026 edition.
Quickly move between fields on a webpage by pressing the TAB key or to go back to a previous field press the SHIFT + TAB key.
Take advantage of tabbed browsing by finding links within any article on a webpage, rolling your cursor over the link, left click on the mouse while holding down the CONTROL key. This will open the link in a new window.
If you accidently close a tab you need opened, no problem, simply press CONTROL+SHIFT+T on your keyboard and you previous tab will reopen.
If you want to highlight a letter or paragraph just double-click on the word or to highlight the whole paragraph or sentence, click the mouse button three times on any word and that will highlight the section you need.
The “Snipping Tool” is one of the best new tools found on computers. Here is a quick tip right from the Almanack about how to better use this amazing tool.
“If you want to take a screenshot of a specific area on your screen, use the keyboard to open the Snipping Tool, primed and ready to select an area of your screen. First, press WIN + SHIFT + S and begin snipping away! When you’ve snipped your screenshot, you can open it in the Snipping Tool window which will automatically open to save, copy, or edit it.”
These are but a few computer tips and tricks you can find in The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack. LocalNews1 is honored to partner with Gruber’s Hagerstown Town & Country Almanack to bring you the most relevant, timely and informative content about and around Washington and Franklin counties.
