CHAMBERSBURG– The Institute for Retired Persons (IRP) in Chambersburg offers a diverse range of engaging lectures and activities for its members. This week’s schedule is packed with informative sessions that cater to various interests and provide opportunities for learning and socializing. Here is a closer look at the lineup for the upcoming week:

Monday, 18 March

  • 9 a.m. – Zoom
    • Lecture: “When Harry Met Elsey: Madness, Power & Justice in Federal Era Baltimore” by Dr. Robert Schoeberlein
    • Details: Participants can access the reading material for free, starting from page 49 of the Maryland Historical Magazine, Spring/Summer 2021 edition.

Tuesday, 19 March

  • 8:15 a.m. – In-Person at Menno Haven Life Center
    • Activity: Sign up for the Bus Trip on 10 April.
  • 9 a.m. – In-Person at Menno Haven Life Center
    • Lecture: “Avoiding Apocalypse: How Science and Scientists Ended the Cold War” by Dr. Jeffrey Colvin
  • 10:30 a.m. – In-Person at Menno Haven Life Center
    • Lecture: “Improving Quality of Life for Those With Vision Loss and Those Who Care for Them” by Gale S. Pollock

Wednesday, 20 March

  • 9 a.m. – Zoom
    • Lecture: “Murder and Witchcraft: The Incredible Story of York County’s Hex Murder” by Jim McClure

Thursday, 21 March

  • 9 a.m. – In-Person at Menno Haven Life Center
    • Lecture: “Demographic Issues & How They Affect Global Migration & Environmental Issues” by Dr. Mark Sachleben
  • 10:30 a.m. – In-Person at Menno Haven Life Center
    • Lecture: “The Suffragettes and the Battle for Women’s Voting Rights” by Beth Halley and Helen Wojtech
