CHAMBERSBURG – The Latino Council of the Knights of Columbus at Corpus Christi is spearheading a donation drive to aid victims of Hurricane Helene, which has devastated parts of Asheville, N.C. This initiative aims to gather essential supplies for those affected by the storm.

An 18-wheeler tractor trailer will be used to carry donations directly to the impacted areas. Community members are encouraged to contribute during designated drop-off times:

  • Saturday, Oct. 19: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 20: 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Location for Donations:
Corpus Christi Parish Center
279 N. Second St.

The following items are urgently required:

  • Winter clothing: For both children and adults
  • Blankets, sheets and pillowcases
  • Personal hygiene products: Shampoo, deodorant, wipes
  • Non-perishable food items: Soup, tuna, canned goods
  • Household supplies: Toilet paper, paper towels, batteries
  • Pet supplies: Dog and cat food
  • Miscellaneous: Gas cans (empty)

In addition to material contributions, monetary donations will be collected during the weekend of Oct. 26-27. These funds will be directed to Catholic Charities USA, which is actively providing assistance to those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

As Hurricane Helene continues to affect residents in western North Carolina, local and state officials are working tirelessly to provide relief. Gov. Roy Cooper (D) has been actively surveying damage and coordinating recovery efforts. FEMA has reported significant assistance being deployed in the form of food and water distribution across the region. More than 1,500 responders from various agencies have been mobilized to support recovery operations
