HAGERSTOWN – VHS cassettes made a comeback for at least one sunny afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Wacohu Grange Hall located at 16412 National Pike. The Horrorween Expo, sponsored by Captain Adam’s VHS Pirate Ship, brought fans of the horror genre together to celebrate Halloween with a wide array of movies and memorabilia.
The small venue offered a wide selection of items, including T-shirts, books, comics, toys, artwork, music, and, of course, VHS tapes, which were the highlight of the show. Collectors from all around the tri-state area shopped for their favorite film titles, hoping to find that rare gem to add to their collection.
“Captain” Adams of Berlin, Maryland, explained the vendor patrons as, “mainly comprised of private sellers, with only two of the vendors being actual businesses, Wonder Book and Video and Crucial Blast Records.”
Wonder Book and Video is a book and video store located at 607 Dual Highway in Hagerstown and at 1306 W. Patrick St. in Frederick. Crucial Blast Records is an online media store based in Hagerstown.
This was the third year for the Horrorween Halloween Expo, and Adams expressed his joy that the crowds continued to grow each year.
“I’m very blessed that the event seems to be becoming more and more popular every year,” he said and also added that the event is a reminder of how magical Halloween can be.
Captain Adam’s VHS Pirate Ship is a YouTube channel created by Adam, and the expo is an extension of that based on his love of nostalgia and VHS collecting. It would seem he was not alone in that shared passion, based on the number of attendees that turned out for the expo.
