After a feverish final week of the regular season, Pennsylvania’s playoff brackets have been locked in.

We counted seven area squads that have qualified for the District 3 postseason, including two local teams that will face each other.

On the volleyball court, Mid-Penn Colonial Division champion Waynesboro has qualified for the 6A dance as a No. 8 seed and the Maidens will host a first-round match against none other than their Franklin County playmate Chambersburg, which slides in as the No. 9 seed.

Fairfield’s girls soccer team exploded for a 14-4 record this fall, and the Knights will enjoy a first-round bye after being tabbed as the No. 2 seed for the 1A tourney.

Greencastle-Antrim and Chambersburg narrowly missed spots in the district girls soccer brackets, but their boys counterparts were more fortunate. The Blue Devils sneak into the playoffs as a No. 16 seed in 3A, while the Trojans — who finished as district runner-up in 2025 — make it into the 4A playoffs as a No. 14. Fairfield’s boys soccer team will be seeded No. 7 in the 1A playoffs.

Greencastle’s field hockey team is also bound for the postseason as a No. 13 seed in the 3A bracket.

While some sports are just beginning the playoff process in Pennsylvania, tennis and golf are already crowning champions. Chambersburg’s girls tennis doubles squad of Leah Wadel/Charley Kalathas made an unlikely run at the District 3-3A Doubles Championship last weekend. Unseeded, Wadel/Kalathas ran through their bracket with upsets over the Nos. 1 and 4 seeds on their way to a runner-up finish. The duo will be moving on to states.

The PIAA 2A Golf Championships also wrapped last weekend, with Fairfield’s Isabelle Studli winning a state medal. She fired an 82-78-160 in the girls tourney to finish in a tie for 10th place. Her teammate, Aden Frank, competed on the boys side and shot a 79-75-154 to finish in a tie for 30th place.

On the gridiron, Chambersburg and Greencastle kept playoff hopes alive by coming through clutch in must-win games. Smithsburg’s undefeated season came to a halt last weekend, as the Leopards fell to 7-1 with a 49-14 loss to Fort Hill. In flag football, Smithsburg (9-2) is one win away from a 2A-1A West I region championship after blowing out Williamsport 44-0 in the semifinals.

Cross country had the week off, but postseason action will be heating up this weekend. Maryland will be joining the playoff party shortly, as most of the state’s region brackets are scheduled to be drawn up in the coming week.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the LocalNews1 coverage area performed last week:
