It was a historical week for the Chambersburg boys swimming squad at the PIAA Class 3A Championships, held at Bucknell University.
With three individual medalists — Alex Kaczmark (3rd in 200 freestyle; 8th in 100 freestyle), Amir Tasker (4th in 200 freestyle), and Cullen McGraw (4th in 500 freestyle) — leading the way, the Trojans finished fourth in the team standings, the highest placement in school history.
Chambersburg also got two Top 8 finishes from its relays. Chambersburg’s 400 freestyle relay team of Kaczmark, Ethan White, Cristian Pong, and Tasker finished third in 3:05.56, while the 200 freestyle relay team finished seventh in 1:25.10 thanks to the efforts of Kaczmark, Tasker, Pong, and White.
Basketball season is over after the elimination of our final two squads at states. The Chambersburg boys fell 54-38 to Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the second round of the PIAA Class 6A tourney, while Smithsburg’s girls saw their undefeated season come to an end with a 63-59 (OT) loss to Southern Garrett in the MPSSAA Class 1A semifinals.
Winter sports are now officially over for local teams, but the spring season is just getting started. Chambersburg’s boys tennis squad opened its campaign last week with a 5-0 victory over Northern York.
