The first quarter of the high school baseball season is in the books, and several area teams find themselves on the top looking down.
The most surprising leader is Chambersburg — a team that won just five games in 2025 — which has stormed out of the gates to seize control of the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division. The Colonial Division is led by Greencastle-Antrim, which scored a come-from-behind win over Waynesboro to keep its unbeaten season alive. North Hagerstown (3-0) and Smithsburg (4-1) are also off to fast starts.
On the softball field, North Hagerstown is 4-2 and has already doubled its win total from last year’s 2-18 campaign. Two one-loss teams, Chambersburg and Greencastle, are both within striking distance of first place in their respective divisions.
Have we already mentioned Chambersburg and Greencastle? Both schools are off to undefeated starts in the track and field dual season. Not to be outdone, athletes at North and South Hagerstown showcased their talents on the invitational scene. The North Hagerstown Coaches Open saw 11 athletes claim titles, including the Rebels’ Trinity Savage, who won the long jump, and then won the same event over the weekend at the Tamara Ovejara Invitational.
Finally, there are two other South Hagerstown teams off to sharp starts this spring: The boys lacrosse team is 6-1, while the girls tennis squad is unblemished at 4-0.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
