Mother Nature did her very best to ruin the first full of week of high school sports, but area squads rolled with the delays and postponements and salvaged what they could from a rain-filled week.
Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim are off to unbeaten starts on both the baseball and softball diamonds, while the baseball squads at Smithsburg and South Hagerstown both kicked off their campaigns with dominant victories.
Chambersburg’s also off to a 2-1 start on the tennis court, while the Trojans’ boys lacrosse team is 2-0 after kicking off their season with wins over Central Dauphin (17-16) and CD East (19-6).
Outdoor track season opened in Maryland, with Smithsburg and North Hagerstown taking on the Charas Heurich Invitational. The Leopard boys took second in the meet and got a win in the 3,200 from Michael Wynkoop. The Hubs, who finished in fourth, got a victory from Landon Call in the 800. North Hagerstown’s girls — on the strength of wins from Anna Chamberlin (100 hurdles), Mackenzie Philp (400), and Dayanah Brunson (300 hurdles) — finished in third place.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
