Area track and field athletes ran, jumped, and threw their way through a busy weekend of invitationals.
North Hagerstown was active at the Woodward Relays, and got girls wins from Anna Chamberlin (high jump, 5-0), Raisa Marinoiu (pole vault, 7-0), Reggan Chapin (pole vault, 7-0), Anna Ramanan (2,000 steeplechase, 8:01.48), and Michelle Boakye (1,600 racewalk, 12:50.73). The Hubs got a win on the boys side from Landon Call in the 2,000 steeplechase (6:35.31).
The Don Boyer Invite was highlighted by the efforts of South Hagerstown’s Trinity Savage, who dominated the girls meet with three podium finishes, including a victory in the long jump (17-4.25). Chloe Gietka won the triple jump (35-8.5), while the Rebel boys got a victory from Torin Sitter in the 400 (49.99). Smithsburg was also in action at the Don Boyer Invite and got wins from two boys, Dylan Herbst (3,200, 9:58.71) and Cadyn Nesbitt (pole vault, 13-2), and another victory on the girls side from Skyla Mastronardi (high jump, 4-10).
The Arctic Blast Invitational saw Waynesboro’s Bre McIlquham go off for three podium finishes in the girls meet, including a win in the 300 hurdles (48.29). At the same meet, Fairfield’s boys surged to victory in the 4×100 relay with a time of 44.53.
Last but not least in the high school track world, Greencastle-Antrim’s Noah Parks blasted off for a Pan-Ram Invitational victory in the 800 with a time of 1:57.42.
On the baseball diamond, four area teams continue to roll. Chambersburg and Greencastle are both in control of their respective divisions, while Smithsburg (6-1) and North Hagerstown (5-0) have been solid.
Chambersburg’s softball team went 3-0 last week, and the Trojans remain in a tie for first place in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division.
Undefeated teams on the tennis court include the South Hagerstown girls (6-0) and the North Hagerstown boys (4-0), while boys lacrosse squads South Hagerstown (7-1) and Smithsburg (5-1) are also in the midst of standout seasons.
