Hagerstown man denied bail in Franklin County missing teen case

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Hagerstown man was denied bail after Pennsylvania State Police said he helped a 15-year-old Franklin County girl run away from home, concealed her whereabouts and provided her with cigarettes and alcohol.

Damian Bruce Prado, 31, is charged with felony interference with the custody of children, felony concealment of the whereabouts of a child and misdemeanor corruption of minors.

Magisterial District Judge Jody Eyer denied bail, writing that no amount of money or conditions would keep the public safe. Prado remains lodged in Franklin County Jail.

State police were called Sept. 12 to a Guilford Township residence for a report of a missing juvenile. Troopers learned that the 15-year-old girl had recently been associating with a man believed by her family to be in his 20s.

Police said the man was suspected of providing the girl with cigarettes and alcohol and meeting with her after she left her home at night to go to a nearby park. The family provided troopers with photographs of the girl and the unidentified man, according to court documents.

After the teen was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing juvenile, another trooper recognized the man from a 2024 police encounter, authorities said. Police identified him as Prado, who was 31 when the charges were filed.

Troopers contacted one of Prado’s family members and learned he no longer lived there. During a phone call with the family member, Prado allegedly said the girl was an ex-girlfriend and that he was not with her, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said Prado did not contact authorities after learning the girl was a juvenile actively being sought by police.

Using real-time cellular location information associated with Prado’s known phone number, troopers tracked him to Franklin County. Police later located a black Porsche SUV on Fetterhoff Chapel Road and stopped the vehicle.

Prado was taken into custody, and the juvenile was found safely inside the SUV, police said. She was transported to the state police barracks in Chambersburg for an interview.

During that interview, the girl told investigators she met Prado online several weeks before the incident and that he had misrepresented his age, police said. Investigators alleged Prado planned to pick her up after she sneaked out of her home and leave the area with her.

Police also alleged Prado supplied the teen with cigarettes and alcohol and took steps to prevent her from being found by her family and law enforcement. Those actions allegedly included discarding the girl’s cellphone after Prado learned police were looking for her.

A preliminary hearing had not yet been listed on the public docket as of Tuesday morning.

The charges are allegations. Prado is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
