STATE COLLEGE – The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils softball team’s remarkable season ended Friday with a 2-0 loss to Penn-Trafford in the PIAA Class 5A state championship game at Penn State University.
The Blue Devils, making their first state final appearance in 16 years, played with heart and determination throughout the contest. The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning, when Penn-Trafford broke through with a pair of runs, sealing the victory.
Greencastle-Antrim’s defense shone early, highlighted by a standout catch from right fielder Kaiden Zimmerman in the fifth inning. Despite the loss, the team’s journey to the state championship inspired pride throughout the community.
Greencastle-Antrim advanced to the finals after a dominant 13-0 win over West Chester earlier in the week. The Blue Devils’ historic run drew hundreds of supporters, with community members gathering to send the team off Friday morning before their trip to State College.
“We are so proud of these girls and everything they accomplished this season,” said one community member. “They have represented Greencastle-Antrim with class and determination.”
The team’s appearance in the state final marked a major milestone for Greencastle-Antrim athletics, uniting the town in celebration of their achievements. Although the Blue Devils fell short in the championship game, their season will be remembered as one of grit, teamwork and community spirit.
