GREENCASTLE, Pa. — A man whose presence prompted a student pickup concern at the Greencastle-Antrim School District was not a cause for alarm, Superintendent Lura Hanks said Friday evening.
“We appreciate the gentleman and the family for working with us to clarify the situation,” Hanks said. “We are grateful for the willingness of everyone involved to help us get the facts and resolve the concern.”
The district initially said the incident involved someone trying to pick up a student he did not know. In the update, Hanks said the man was on campus “to pick up a different student and was looking for the right location.”
Hanks said staff responded cautiously based on the information they had at the time.
“Staff acted out of an abundance of caution based on the information available to them at the time,” she said. “When it comes to the safety of our students, we will always take concerns seriously and err on the side of caution.”
