WAYNESBORO – A Summer Solstice Celebration featuring “Cocktails in the Cemetery” will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St. The event is hosted by Antietam Historical Association, founded in 2006 to interpret the history of the region in Maryland and Pennsylvania drained by Antietam Creek.
The celebration includes music by Reckless Mo & The Backseat Drivers, as well as a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres and cemetery tours.
Tickets, available by calling 717-762-2759 or 717-658-6789 and at the cemetery office, are $25 per person or two for $45 in advance and $30 per person or two for $55 at the door. The event will be held rain or shine.
Green Hill Cemetery was established in 1873 as a community burial ground to replace local churchyards that had nearly reached their capacities. It is a garden cemetery on 65 acres traversed by seven miles of paved roadway and filled with monumental architecture and plant life. Green Hill is Waynesboro’s oldest non-denominational burial ground and Franklin County’s largest cemetery property.
