WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Justin Gouff has withdrawn his candidacy for the vacant board member seat with the Waynesboro Area School District.
Gouff had initially been elected as the new North End representative to the board at the May 12 board meeting with a 4-3 vote. However, on May 13 it was announced by the district superintendent Dr. Rita Sterner-Hine that due to a violation of state law, the board was going to re-vote on the election of a new board member at the upcoming May 26 meeting. The violation in question was due to one of the board members not being present during the interview process and subsequent vote.
The announcement of Gouff’s withdrawal came from the board president, Rachel Fortney, who announced in a brief email that the vote for a new candidate will still be made at the May 26 meeting.
No updates have been given on the status of the other candidate from the May 12 election, Shandra Kraft, or if any other candidates have applied or may still apply. The application is still live on the Waynesboro Area School District website.
The next Waynesboro Area School District Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at 210 Clayton Ave. These meetings are open to the public.
