CHAMBERSBURG – South Central Community Action Programs will host Glean-A-Mania 2025, a week-long, hands-on event supporting The Gleaning Project, from Aug. 11–15 across Adams and Franklin Counties.
This annual event brings together volunteers, farmers and neighbors to harvest surplus fruits and vegetables from local farms – food that would otherwise go to waste. All gleaned produce is shared with local food banks, shelters and families in need.
“Glean-A-Mania is about turning what would be lost into something that nourishes our community,” said Natalie Sinclair, director of The Gleaning Project. “It’s a joyful, sweaty, powerful way to show up for each other.”
Ways to Participate:
· Volunteer to glean – Join a gleaning session during the week of Aug. 11–15. No experience needed – just a pair of hands and a heart to help.
· Donate your garden extras – Have a home garden with too many zucchinis? We’ll gladly accept excess produce from local gardeners.
· Give financially – Support gleaning operations and produce distribution with a donation at www.thegleaningproject.org.
· Spread the word – Share our mission on social media, invite friends to volunteer, or organize a group gleaning day.

In 2024, The Gleaning Project saved and distributed just under 1,000,000 pounds of fresh produce with the help of 1,000+ volunteers. Glean-A-Mania is an opportunity to deepen that impact by engaging more people in meaningful, community-driven work.
