CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commission’s has extended contracts in the new year, created a program for virtual training of caseworkers, recognized their Employee of the Month and made a donation to the recipient of the employee dress-down fundraiser program.
Two existing contracts have been extended into 2026: for county solicitor and janitorial service at the Waynesboro Senior Activity Center. The law firm Black & Davison, based in Chambersburg, will continue to represent the county in legal matters at a cost of $122,166.12 for the year, paid monthly from the General Fund. Maid2Clean4U janitorial services, also based in Chambersburg, will continue to clean the Senior Center at a rate of $220 per week for two cleanings. The contract is paid via block grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
The commission approved a memorandum of understanding with Pennsylvania Children and Youth Administration to offer enhanced virtual reality training for caseworkers offered through Accenture. The state agency will hold the contract and the county will be billed $4,932 annually, plus a $1,500 one-time fee to purchase a VR headset, and a fee for each participant in the training. The funds will be paid from the Caseworker Visitation Grant provided by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which helps states improve the quality of caseworker visits with children in foster care.
The commissioners presented a check for $660 to Little Daisy’s Closet, an organization working to create fair and equitable access to clothing, reduce food insecurity and disrupt the cycle of poverty by assisting families in need. Volunteers for Little Daisy’s Closet worked nearly 10,000 hours last year, assisting 3,243 families by providing over $900,000 to support basic needs.
Organization President John MCCrae used the opportunity to introduce their new executive director, Carly Ferguson, and mentioned plans for further life-changing events to come in 2026. The funds were donated by county employees in exchange for dress down days when they can wear more casual clothing. Last month, 133 employees from 24 departments contributed.
