CHAMBERSBURG – Franklin County has named Terry Bookhamer its 2024 Community Hero award recipient. Bookhamer, an adult probation officer with the county’s Adult Probation Department, was recognized for his extraordinary efforts to improve and save lives in the community. He has been employed by Franklin County since December 2014.
Bookhamer earned the honor for his quick response during a medical emergency while off duty. While attending training in State College, he witnessed a vehicle moving erratically before it crashed into a tree. Acting swiftly, Bookhamer and another officer called 911 and provided aid to the driver until medical personnel arrived. His actions demonstrated a commitment to public service that extends beyond Franklin County’s borders.
In accepting the award, Bookhamer expressed gratitude and humility. “I appreciate the acknowledgment, but I believe this award is more reflective of the people I work with daily,” he said. “My fellow officers demonstrate the same values and characteristics that qualify for Community Hero. The only difference is I was nominated for my actions.”
Franklin County’s Community Hero award celebrates employees who go above and beyond to serve residents, highlighting the dedication of public servants like Bookhamer who make a lasting impact on their communities.
