Franklin County community rallies holiday card drive for Sam Worley

The Franklin County community is organizing a holiday card drive to show appreciation for 104-year-old Sam Worley, a World War II veteran and longtime public servant. The initiative, titled “Holiday Cheer Card Drive for Sam Worley,” aims to collect simple cards and heartfelt messages to lift the spirits of the centenarian.

Worley is well known across the county as a former Franklin County Commissioner, former mayor of Chambersburg, councilman, and municipal advocate. Described as a friendly face at community events for decades, organizers are encouraging residents to show Worley the same kindness he has consistently extended to others, especially since he is not able to attend as many public functions.

Cards and well wishes will be collected through Friday, Dec. 19.

Residents wishing to participate may mail cards to:

Cards for Sam c/o Antrim Township, PA P.O. Box 130 Greencastle, PA 17225

Cards can also be dropped off at several offices throughout the county, including those of PA State Reps. Chad Reichard, Rob Kauffman, and Rich Irvin; Sen. Doug Mastriano; and Congressman John Joyce. The Franklin County Commissioners’ Office is also serving as a drop-off location.

The card drive will conclude with a year-end breakfast at the John Allison Public House on Friday, Dec. 19, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Cards will also be available for signing at the breakfast.
