Franklin commissioners to consider opiod addiction grant for jail, Habitat land purchase

CHAMBERSBURG – Franklin County Commissioners will consider a $300,000 grant from opiod settlement funding to support the Frankfin County jail’s treatment program for opiod-addicted inmates.

The money comes from a settlement from opiod manufacturers and will help treat and rehabilitate inmates who are incarcerarws with opiod dependence. The funds will enhance care coordination, improve re-entry planning and help reduce recidivism and overdose risk, county officials noted.

In other business, commissioners are to consider a pass-through agreement between the county and Habitat for Humanity for $225,395 for the purchase of 25 acres in Hamilton Township. Habitat builds homes for those who otherwise could not afford a home purchase but who build “sweat equity” by helping build homes for others and themselves.

The meeting will be held in the county Administration Building, Room 824, at 272 N. Second St. Meetings also are live streamed on the county’s YouTube channel and at http://bit.ly/BOCCLiveStream at scheduled meeting times. Meetings always include a period for public comment.
