CASCADE, Md. – The Fort Ritchie Community Center will host health-focused events throughout May, aimed at providing essential services to local residents.
On Saturday, May 17, the center will hold its fun run/walk at the fort! All ages are welcome to participate! There is a one-mile, two-mile, or 5k signup. That will start at 8:30 a.m. There is a $10 pre-registration fee for ages 7+, and 6 and under are free! There is also a $15 same day registration option. Furry friends are welcome as well!
On Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the center will be hosting its health and wellness fair! It’ll be held in the FRCC Gymnasium.
On all Wednesdays of the month, the center will hold its Homeschool Club. It runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and has age groups of 6-10 and 11-15. The cost per session is $5 per child per session.
On Tuesday, May 13 and 27, and Friday, May 23, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Lindsay Cassidy from the Washington County Health Department will be at the Community Center to offer free blood pressure and pre-diabetes screenings.
Also on Tuesday, May 13 and 27, Tabitha’s Table, from Smithsburg, Maryland, will be providing the community with food items from its pantry by 11 a.m. until the food items are gone.
On Wednesday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., readers can treat themselves to a mobile chair massage! They can pay by the minute for a 10-, 15- or 20-minute session with Miranda Tyler, massage therapist. Appointments are by walk-in only, and all clients must sign a liability waiver before receiving service.
