WAYNESBORO—FirstEnergy Foundation has donated $25,000 in support of The Institute’s capital campaign, Ensuring the Future, to create a new nature center near Waynesboro, Pa.
The Institute purchased a 40-acre rural property in Washington Township with plans to transform the property into a nature education center and living classroom for both students and the greater Waynesboro community.
“We’re grateful for this generous commitment from FirstEnergy Foundation,” said Tracy Holliday, Institute executive director. “This gift complements FirstEnergy’s ongoing support of The Institute from our Bay Supper Fundraiser to our annual Jazz Festival to their support of our watershed science education activities. The Foundation’s investments span several facets of our community engagement, and it’s especially fitting that they will now help us plant roots in our very own nature center home.”
The FirstEnergy Foundation was created to support local nonprofit organizations throughout FirstEnergy’s mid-Atlantic regional service areas, with the goal of helping to strengthen the social and economic fabric of our communities.
A nonprofit organization, The Institute provides programming in environmental education and cultural history for area school children, plus a variety of workshops, lectures, programs and annual community events for all ages.
