Even when saddled with poor starting position, father and son Lance and Cole Dewease can never be counted out on the race track.
Lance, a National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, and Cole proved this once again during a weekend of racing that was mostly washed out by rain.
Competing in the World of Outlaws Tune Up at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, Lance drove from 11th to fifth in the 410 Sprints. It was the 15th top-five finish of the season for Dewease, who also has two wins.
Also at Williams Grove, Hagerstown’s Chance Hendershot landed a third-place finish in the 358 Sprints.
On the same night of racing at Bedford Speedway, Cole Dewease showcased his prowess in the 305 Sprints by driving from eighth to third. He was followed to the finish line by Hagerstown’s Dylan Shatzer, who claimed fourth. The Late Model Sportsman feature at Bedford included top-five finishes from Chambersburg’s Gunnar Walls (3rd) and Greencastle’s Brian Booze (4th).
Jakob Piper of Mercersburg was the area’s lone top-10 finisher in a Saturday race program at Bedford. He finished 10th in the Super Late Models feature.
Racing was rained out at Hagerstown, Path Valley, Lincoln, Winchester and BAPS Motor Speedways. Selinsgrove Speedway enjoyed a scheduled weekend off.
