Attendees at an upcoming Penn State Extension workshop can learn how keeping a nature journal could give them greater appreciation for and connection to the world around them.
The 90-minute “Nature Journaling Workshop” will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.
Nature journals offer a meaningful way to connect with the world by encouraging close observation and thoughtful reflection, workshop organizers said. Participants seeking a deeper connection with the natural environment can explore simple journaling techniques using words, numbers and sketches to record their observations — no artistic experience required.
Participants will engage in topics such as:
— How to identify and describe observable characteristics of natural objects.
— Techniques for recording one’s observations.
— The personal and environmental benefits of journaling in nature.
The registration deadline for the workshop is 7 a.m. Aug. 21. Organizers ask participants to bring a notebook or sketchpad and writing utensils.
