WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Area families are invited to discover Creatures of the Night on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at Buttonwood Nature Center.
The event is a chance to experience wildlife at night with a Buttonwood naturalist. A short pre-hike learning session will explore native crepuscular and nocturnal animals like owls, foxes and others.
Following the learning session, the group will head out on one of Buttonwood’s trails for an evening hike to listen and look for some of the nighttime critters.
Participants should dress for the weather and bring a red-light flashlight if they have one. The hike may last up to an hour.
“When we go to sleep each night, so much of the natural world around us is just waking up! This is a chance to explore that world a little closer,” said Buttonwood educator Mary Claire King, event coordinator.
“We’ll listen for owl calls, look for insects with red light flashlights, and try and see the world at night like the animals do.”
Part of Buttonwood’s Naturalist Discovery Series, the event is open to all ages. The event is limited to 30 participants. Cost is $5 per person, and registration is required.
