WAYNESBORO – Nothing gets you going in the morning like a good hearty breakfast that is both filling and easy on the wallet. The Main Street Family Diner, which is located on Route 16 in the Wayne Heights Mall Plaza, offers both breakfast and lunch items from their menu as soon as the doors open at 6 a.m. So, if you are headed to work or just getting off the night shift, then a delicious meal awaits.
The menu offers a wide variety of breakfast choices. There is the traditional eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, French toast and home fries, as well as a wide variety of omelets and eggs benedict.
During my early morning visit I went with their most popular menu option, the Main Street Breakfast, which consisted of two eggs, made to your liking, I went with over medium. The meal also comes with home fries and choice of meat. The options were bacon, sausage, ham or scrapple — all tasty choices, but I am a bacon lover. Also added were the option of two pancakes or French toast. This was the tough option for me, but the pancakes won out.
For $12.50, the portion sizes of this meal guaranteed that you will not be walking away from the table hungry. To quench your thirst there were free refills on coffee or soda. I had already had two cups of coffee that morning, so I just got a glass of orange juice and milk.
While I was there for breakfast, that didn’t stop me from checking out the lunch and dinner menu for future visits. Everything from classic sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, chicken, steak and seafood filled the four pages of the menu, but it was the prices that made me smile. Most of the items were in the $10-$20 range and if the portion sizes match that of the breakfast, it would be money well spent.
The meal was so filling that I had to pass on dessert, but that did not stop me from stopping and seeing what options there were in the dessert display cases. There were a variety of cakes and pies sure to extinguish a sweet tooth. If you can’t eat one of these tasty treats while your there, you can always grab a slice to go.
The dining room is spacious with plenty of table and booth seating. There is also additional seating at the bar and larger tables to accommodate big groups. The staff was friendly and attentive, keeping the coffee pots on the move and offering a smile and greeting to every guest.
