WAYNESBORO – Julie Diaz of the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library presented Waynesboro Rotarians with an overview of some of the services the library is providing for the area.
She said at last week’s meeting that libraries are “reinventing themselves” in the ways they provide information and resources to the community.
“We are pushing to see what Waynesboro needs of us,” she said. The library has formed partnerships with community groups, including the Waynesboro Area School District and the YMCA.
Programs for pre-K students have been expanded and STEM programs are being provided for both elementary and secondary students. Some adult programs have been set up in conjunction with the Little Antietam Creek and Conococheague organizations.
Diaz said Alexander Hamilton is the only library of its size in the state to have a library social worker. The social worker addresses areas of need and support in the community and provides a safety net by advising people where they can get help. Shippensburg University has partnered with the library for the social work program.
