The first three races of Pennsylvania Speedweek have been completed, and the “Fayetteville Flyer” is already in the mix for a championship.
Lance Dewease had a sharp weekend on the track, with the National Sprint Car Hall of Famer rolling to two Top 5 finishes in three races. Competing in the 410 Sprints, Dewease posted a third-place finish at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, before taking fifth at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, and 15th at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday.
With 273 points and seven races remaining, Dewease ranks No. 2 in the Speedweek standings behind defending champion Anthony Macri (327).
Dewease was making forward progress all night on Friday at Williams Grove. He went from third to second in his heat race, before jumping from seventh to third in the 30-lap feature. One day later at Lincoln, Dewease won his heat race before posting a solid finish in the 30-lap feature.
His only blip came on Sunday at BAPS, when he finished sixth in his heat race and missed the automatic transfer to the feature. Dewease instead earned his ticket to the main event by going from third to first in the B-Main. The effort earned him the 21st-starting spot in the feature, and he made the most out of it, jumping six spots over 30 laps to finish 15th.
Racing was rained out at Grandview, Path Valley, Port Royal, and Selinsgrove Speedways, while Hagerstown Speedway had a scheduled weekend off.
Finally, an eventful night at Dog Hollow Speedway saw Greencastle’s DJ Myers persevere for fourth place in a race where he blew out two tires and got tangled up in a wreck.
Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the LocalNews1.org coverage area:
