WAYNESBORO – A Dec. 23 hearing has been set for Kameren Leith, 16, who has been charged with attempted homicide in the stabbing of his mother, who, police say, also was struck with a baseball bat.
The woman was stabbed 20 to 30 times police said, and suffered a head injury from the bat. The injuries were considered life threatening, and the woman, who has not been identified, was being treated at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, according to police and media reports.
The teen is in Franklin County Jail, denied bail, according to county court records.
Washington Township police responded to the 13000 block of Welty Road at about 10:45 a.m. Dec. 14 after a 911 caller reported their neighbor had been stabbed several times and struck in the head with a baseball bat..
The neighbor was providing aid to the female victim when police arrived and said she had come to his home for help.
The woman told police that her son had stabbed her repeatedly with a butcher knife and hit her in the head with a baseball bat about a half hour earlier in an upstairs bedroom at their home, according to court documents.
Police issued an alert asking other authorities in the area to be on the lookout for the suspect and the vehicle. Franklin County Emergency Communications used the teen’s cell phone information to determine he was traveling through Hagerstown toward Fulton County on Interstate 70, according to court documents.
The teen was in police custody by 12:11 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police-Bedford initiated a traffic stop and detained him following a short foot chase, according to court documents.
