HAGERSTOWN – Several representatives gathered at a recent Hagerstown Community College Board of Trustees meeting to celebrate the launch of the Cyber Workforce Accelerator Program, a new initiative established by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges and BCR Cyber.
The program, funded by $1.8 million from the state and a $617,400 grant from the Senator George Edwards Fund, aims to expand cybersecurity training across Maryland’s 16 community colleges. HCC is among the first to benefit, following the earlier grant awarded to three Western Maryland colleges last summer.
Students now have access to BCR Cyber Series 3000 Cyber Ranges, a simulator offering hands-on experience to prepare for more than 30,000 open cybersecurity jobs in Maryland. The program is designed to remove barriers to entry, providing training at no cost to participants and equipping them with industry-recognized credentials.
Representatives from BCR Cyber, MACC, the George Edwards Fund, and HCC staff, faculty and board members attended the event, highlighting the collaborative effort to strengthen the state’s cyber workforce.
