CHAMBERSBURG – Curtis Shoup of Chambersburg said he will be running for borough council person for ward 3. Curtis and his family have lived in Chambersburg since 2017. Shoup is actively involved in the community, supporting local school non-profits through fundraising and participates with the Chambersburg Community Theater and the Chambersburg Ballet.
Shoup was raised in rural northeast Ohio and most recently lived in Philadelphia before moving with his family to Chambersburg in 2017. He has a music degree and is currently taking classes to earn his teaching certification. Shoup’s involvement in the local PTO resulted in raising thousands of dollars for a new playground, basketball jerseys and reduced costs for students to play soccer. He also spearheaded a tree planting campaign at Stevens Elementary School, planting over 150 trees with the community, teachers and students.
“I’m running for Chambersburg Borough Council to be a voice for the ever-changing community,” Shoup said. “I want to help improve our local community by ensuring that proper resources are available and beneficial to all of us. I want to bring a fresh perspective from our ward, based on common sense and the changing needs of the community. I pledge to visit as many residents as possible in my area to get thoughts and opinions to ensure everyone has a voice.”
