FORT LOUDON – Cowans Gap State Park will host its annual Mentored Youth Fishing Day on March 29 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The 42-acre lake will be exclusively open to participants in this program.
Youth anglers must possess a Mentored Youth Permit or a Voluntary Youth License and be accompanied by an adult angler to participate. Anglers 16 and older are required to be accompanied by a youth actively fishing in the program.
The program allows youth to harvest up to two trout with a minimum length of 7 inches. Adult anglers must practice catch and release for trout, leaving them unharmed. All other creel limits will remain in effect during this time.
Cowans Gap State Park, spanning 1,085 acres in Fulton County’s Allens Valley, offers visitors a variety of attractions including two campgrounds, rustic Civilian Conservation Corps cabins and numerous trails. The park is surrounded by state forest land, providing additional recreational opportunities and natural beauty year-round.
Park officials encourage participation in this event as it supports youth programs and promotes the future of fishing in Pennsylvania.
