CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The 22nd annual Tim & Susan Cook Memorial Race/Walk will take place on Saturday, July 11, as part of the 40th annual ChambersFest celebration. Community members of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this unique one-mile event that honors the legacy of two dedicated educators while supporting local students.
Registration and check-in begin at 7 a.m. at the Chambersburg Area Senior High School upper stadium concession area, located at 511 South Sixth St. The women’s and girls’ race/walk will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the men’s and boys’ race/walk at 8:30. Both races will start at Chambersburg Area Middle School South and finish at Trojan Stadium. The awards ceremony is expected to conclude by 9:30.
The race honors Tim E. Cook and Susan M. Cook, who lost their lives in a car accident on Dec. 13, 2002. Both were 1971 Chambersburg graduates. Tim served as a math teacher at Chambersburg Area Senior High School for 28 years and coached the girls cross country and track teams. Susan worked as an administrative assistant at Shippensburg University. Proceeds from the event benefit the Tim and Susan Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund, continuing their shared commitment to education and student success.
The event’s one-mile format reflects Tim Cook’s love of the mile race and offers an opportunity for runners, joggers and walkers of every ability level to participate. The course follows McKinley Avenue, a route Coach Cook traveled countless times during his coaching career, allowing participants to literally follow in his footsteps.
Online registration is open until July 8, and the cost is $25, with T-shirts available while supplies last. Participants may also register in person beginning at 7 a.m. on race day.
