Community generosity turns jewelry into homes via Habitat auction

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – A generous donation of jewelry is being transformed into a housing opportunity through a special online auction benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County.

Recently, a local supporter donated a significant collection of jewelry to Habitat with one simple request: sell the pieces and use the proceeds to advance the organization’s mission of building safe, affordable homes in the community. In response, Habitat has partnered with an online auction platform to make the collection available to bidders.

The auction is currently live and will close March 28. Community members can view the jewelry and place bids online by starting at the Habitat website: habitatfranklinpa.org and clicking the Jewelry Auction button.

“This is generosity in action,” said Mark Story of Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County. “The original donor gave something of value so it could be turned into something even more valuable – homes and hope for families. And every person who places a bid becomes part of that same story.”

Proceeds from the auction will help Habitat continue building homes and strengthening neighborhoods across Franklin County. The organization notes that the generosity doesn’t stop with the original gift.

“The donor started the story,” Story said. “But every bidder continues it. Each bid helps transform jewelry into lumber, nails, and ultimately a place a family can call home.”

Community members are encouraged to browse the collection, share the auction with friends, and consider placing a bid before the March 28 closing date.
