Community and police unite for National Night Out Aug. 5

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Communities across the Cumberland Valley will come together on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, to celebrate National Night Out, an annual event designed to foster police-community partnerships and promote neighborhood safety. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., residents in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania will gather at various locations for family-friendly activities, including games, food, and opportunities to meet local law enforcement.

In Hagerstown, the City Police Department will host an event at Fairgrounds Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be at Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Boonsboro’s event at Shafer Park runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Hancock Police will gather at Widmeyer Park starting at 6 p.m.

The Frederick Police Department will hold three simultaneous events from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mullinix Park, Carrollton Park, and Hill Street Park, offering residents multiple locations to engage with officers and neighbors.

In West Virginia, Martinsburg Police will host their event at War Memorial Park on Tennessee Avenue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Pennsylvania communities are also joining the effort. Greencastle Police will be behind Greencastle-Antrim Middle School from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., while Washington Township Police will set up at the Lowe’s parking lot in Rouzerville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Chambersburg’s event at Memorial Park runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Shippensburg Police will host in the Police Department parking lot on West Burd Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department will hold its event at the Adams County Fairgrounds from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

National Night Out, now in its 42nd year, aims to build stronger, safer communities through these local gatherings. Events are free and open to the public, encouraging residents to connect with law enforcement in a positive, informal setting.
