Fellow freshman Emma Mackulin (West Mifflin/West Mifflin Area) had two singles and two RBIs.

Shippensburg indoor track coaches win regional honors

SHIPPENSBURG — Shippensburg University’s Dave Osanitsch was named the 2022 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Men’s Indoor Head Coach of the Year recently.

The award is the seventh Men’s Regional Indoor Coach of the Year award for Osanitsch, who won previously in 2020, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2011 and 2006.

Shippensburg’s Steve Spence was also honored as the Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Spence’s award marks the eighth time in the last 10 years that a Shippensburg University coach has been named the Atlantic Region Indoor Assistant of the Year: Doug Knol (2020), Spence (2018), Glenn Thompson (2017), Knol (2016), Spence (2015), Knol (2014), and Spence (2013).

Osanitsch led Shippensburg to its 11th straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championship in 2022 and its 14th indoor conference championship overall, the most of any school in league history.

Shippensburg became the third team in PSAC history to score in every event at the indoor conference championships. SU posted a 120-point victory margin, the second-largest in league history. The Raiders totaled 210 points, the most-ever in a 17-event PSAC championship meet and just 3.5 points shy of the overall record that was set at an 18-event championship meet.
