Penn State Mont Alto men’s team rolls to victory in season finale

MONT ALTO — The Penn State Mont Alto men’s basketball team finished off its season in high style with a 76-53 win over Penn State Brandywine.

Darrius Bush (Martinsburg, W.Va./Spring Mills) scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in the first half for Mont Alto. He was 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-5 from three-point range. Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg/Harrisburg) was the other top scorer in the first half with five points.

Penn State Mont Alto won the first half turnover battle 8-5.

Nathan Osei (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led a huge second half for Penn State Mont Alto, chipping in 14 points to go along with two steals. Bush added 10 points in the second half, also collecting four rebounds and three assists. Caleb Eckert (Chambersburg/Cumberland Valley Christian School) also had a strong second half, scoring eight points on 3-of-5 shooting.

Mont Alto converted on 22-of-25 free throw attempts. Its largest lead was 23 game, coming in the second half with 49 seconds remaining.

Penn State Mont Alto, which finished its regular season with a 23-3 overall record and 18-1 In Penn State University Athletic Conference games, will host a PSUAC tournament quarterfinal game Monday at 7:30 p.m. with an opponent to be determined.

Penn State Mont Alto women’s basketball team defeats Penn State Brandywine

MONT ALTO — The Penn State Mont Alto women’s basketball team clinched the third seed in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference West Division playoffs with a 58-52 win over Penn State Brandywine Thursday.

Mont Alto held the visiting Brandywine team to just 2-of-13 shooting in the first quarter and took a 24-20 halftime lead after Madison Bishop hit a three-pointer with 1:02 remaining in the half. 

In the third quarter, Alexia Hackett and Brianna Muldrow combined to hit four three-pointers for Mont Alto, which gave the home squad a 43-30 lead entering the final quarter. A Brandywine spurt in the fourth quarter came up short as Mont Alto cruised to a Senior Night victory.

Muldrow led Mont Alto with 14 points, followed by Hackett with 13. 

Mont Alto will host sixth-seeded Penn State DuBois for a PSUAC tournament game Saturday at 2 p.m.
