When success eventually finds its way to young athletes, they are told to act like they’ve been there before.
But what advice is there to give to Piper Linn — a former Greencastle-Antrim pole vaulter who recently competed her sophomore season for Division I Connecticut — who has always “been there.”
Competing at the Big East Conference Championships in mid-May, Linn did what she has always done for the Huskies: Win medals. For the fourth time in four conference meets over the indoor and outdoor seasons, Linn came away with a medal, this time for a fourth-place finish.
Linn highlights our list of former Blue Devils — we’ve counted 34 in total — that competed in the collegiate arena last spring. Our list also includes Carter Reid, who guided Messiah’s baseball team all the way to the NCAA Division III Super Regionals, and Makayla Jerin, a star on the softball diamond who led California (Pa.) with a .365 batting average.
In the months to come, College Corner will shift focus to Chambersburg and Waynesboro, before circling back to Greencastle. Are there any athletes for the fall season we should know about? Additions for College Corner can be sent to Andy Sandrik via email at [email protected].
