At least 18 club wrestlers from the Local.News1 coverage area — including a trio of champions in Jackson Polifka, Zane Crouse, and Logan Ardinger — have extended their grappling season into May.
They did so by recording Top 4 performances at last weekend’s Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association (MAWA) West Regional Championships, which were held at Nittany Valley Sports Centre in State College. Those finishers, as well as a select group of fifth- and sixth-place finishers, will compete at the MAWA Eastern National Championships, set to be hosted on May 2-3 at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Md.
Greencastle’s Polifka won the 152-pound weight class in the Advanced division, while teammate Crouse conquered his bracket at 135 in the Elite division. Two other Blue Devil wrestlers, Silas Robertson (2nd at Advanced 140) and Chance Zimmerman (6th at Elite 145), also landed top finishes.
Ardinger competed in the Advanced division and won his bracket at 105 pounds to lead a group of Hagerstown wrestlers that included Paul Ngolle (2nd at Elite 160), Brendon Colbert (2nd at Open 167), and Cameron Ashby (4th at Open 167).
No local program had more Top 6 finishers than Waynesboro. Colton Ogburn took second at 136 pounds in the Intermediate division to lead a group of Boro grapplers that also included Noah Swope (3rd at Midget 62), Emma Swope (3rd in Junior Girls 70), Luke Swope (4th at Bantam 44), Elijah Pradhan (4th at Midget 54), Freedom Young (4th at Intermediate 75), Brixton Hollimon (5th at Junior 74), Keyzlin Hollimon (6th at Midget 80), and Caiden Fann (6th at Junior 98).
Fairfield’s top wrestlers at the region tourney were Wyatt Sager (3rd at Bantam 56) and Timothy Knapp (5th at Junior 70).
