CHAMBERSBURG – Pennsylvania is expanding its electric vehicle charging infrastructure with the opening of three new stations in the Midstate region. One of these stations is located in Chambersburg, Franklin County, at the Chambersburg Square Shopping Center on Walker Road.
The Chambersburg charging station represents a significant investment of $793,457 in federal funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. This station, along with the others, is capable of providing up to 400 kW of power, making it a high-capacity charging option for EV drivers.
The new Chambersburg station is part of a broader initiative to create a network of EV charging stations across Pennsylvania. With these additions, the state now has a total of eight such stations. The strategic placement of these charging points aims to encourage EV adoption and support long-distance travel for electric vehicle owners.
Francis Energy, the company responsible for the Chambersburg station, views this infrastructure as an economic development tool. By attracting EV drivers to the area, the charging station is expected to increase traffic to local businesses in Chambersburg, benefiting the community’s economy.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation sees these new stations as a crucial step in developing the state’s EV infrastructure. The efficient use of federal funds for this project is expected to create jobs and improve the transportation system.
