CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Chambersburg Rotary Club is proud to announce that its 63rd Annual Chicken and Stuff event, held recently, was a historic success. The community came together to set an all-time record, serving a staggering 1,600 meals in a single day.
While the event has long been a local staple, this year’s impact was defined by an unprecedented wave of generosity. Out of the 1,600 meals prepared, 1,100 were donated by community members specifically to feed those facing food insecurity.
The primary focus of this year’s donation drive was supporting the most vulnerable youth in the Chambersburg Area School District. Every single student at Ben Chambers Elementary and Stevens Elementary—two schools where over 90% of the student population is identified as economically disadvantaged—received a hot meal to take home to their families.
Additionally, the Rotary Club ensured that no one was left out, providing meals to:
- All children residing at the Children’s Aid Society.
- Residents at the local Homeless Shelter.
- Individuals seeking refuge at the Cold Weather Shelter.
- 35 students in the district who are currently experiencing homelessness.
“The sheer volume of donated meals this year is a testament to the heart of Chambersburg,” said a spokesperson for the Chambersburg Rotary Club. “To be able to hand a meal to every child at two of our local schools, and support our neighbors in shelters, is exactly why this club exists.”
Every dollar raised from the Chicken and Stuff event stays right here in our backyard. All proceeds are directed into the local Rotary Foundation, which serves as a financial engine for community improvement. These funds come directly back to the community through various service projects and initiatives throughout the year.
