Chambersburg Post 46’s postseason run came to an end Wednesday in the Pennsylvania Senior American Legion Baseball Tournament, as Greater Pittston pulled away for an 11-4 victory in the state championship game in Williamsport.
Despite the loss, Chambersburg finished as one of the last two teams standing after reaching the title game through the elimination bracket. Post 46 had fought off elimination a day earlier with a 2-0 win over Philipsburg, but could not keep pace in the finale against the tournament’s only unbeaten team.
Chambersburg struck back late after Greater Pittston built a 9-0 lead, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to briefly tighten the game. But Greater Pittston answered with two insurance runs and completed a perfect 5-0 run through the double-elimination tournament.
For Chambersburg, the loss closed a strong tournament showing and capped a season that had carried the team deep into state competition. Post 46’s effort to reach the final underscored its resilience, even as the team ran out of steam against a deeper Greater Pittston squad.
Chambersburg had the challenge of needing two wins on the final day to claim the title, but Greater Pittston’s earlier success gave it the cushion it needed. The result ended Post 46’s season with a runner-up finish in the state tournament.
