More than half the Pennsylvania and less than. half of Maryland residents were born there; other states, like Hawaii, have few native-born residents, according to work by demographer Simon Kuestenmacher.
The map indicates that 55.7 percent of Pennsylvanians are native to the state, while 43.5 percent of Maryland residents can make that claim.
The state with the highest share of natives is West Virginia (64.2 percent), followed by North Dakota and Minnesota. States with the lowest share of native-born resident besides Hawaii (18.2 percent), followed by Nevada and California.
