Chambersburg brewery wins silver medal at U.S. beer championship

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Berg Brewing Company earned a silver medal at the 2026 U.S. Beer Open Championship for its Le Crème Cream Ale, marking the brewery’s first national brewing award as it celebrates its first anniversary.

The U.S. Beer Open Championship is the third-largest professional beer competition in the United States, bringing together breweries from across the country and around the world to compete across more than 180 beer style categories.

Berg’s Le Crème Cream Ale earned silver following a blind judging process in which entries are evaluated solely on quality, balance and adherence to style. Also recognized in the Cream Ale category was Little Kings Cream Ale, a nationally distributed brand first brewed in 1955, which earned the bronze medal.

Le Crème Cream Ale was developed and brewed by Berg co-Founder and brewmaster Kyle Underkoffler using traditional brewing techniques and a commitment to balance, drinkability and craftsmanship. The beer has become one of the brewery’s signature offerings since opening in August 2025.

“You never brew a beer expecting to win a medal — you brew it hoping people enjoy drinking it. To have Le Crème recognized by a national panel of judges in our very first year is incredibly rewarding,” Underkoffler said.

“It’s been an incredible first year for Berg. To have this award announced as we’re celebrating our first anniversary makes it even more meaningful. It’s an incredible blessing and a moment we’ll never forget.

“We’re grateful to every guest, every regular, and everyone in the Chambersburg community who has supported us from day one. We look forward to continuing to grow the Berg brand throughout the tri-state region while staying true to the craftsmanship and hospitality that got us here.”

Since opening its doors on Aug. 1, 2025, Berg Brewing Company has welcomed nearly 50,000 guests, becoming a gathering place for handcrafted beer, elevated pub fare, live entertainment and community events in the heart of downtown Chambersburg. The national recognition comes as the brewery celebrates its first anniversary.

Le Crème Cream Ale is available on draft at Berg Brewing Company, located at 100 S. Main St. in downtown Chambersburg.

The brewery is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
