By John Massimilla, WellSpan Health vice president, and president, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital
Providing exceptional health care for our friends and neighbors in the Franklin County area is a commitment we take seriously.
As we continue good faith negotiations with the union representing many of our team members at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, we welcome open dialogue and collaboration.
Our team members are the heartbeat of our organization, delivering exceptional care – one patient, one community, one unique health care need at a time. That’s why we’re committed to supporting team members with a competitive salary and benefits package while fostering an environment where they can thrive.
As a result, the turnover rate at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is 15 percent for the first 10 months of this fiscal year, down from 21 percent in fiscal year 2024. And, coming out of the severe workforce shortages during COVID, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital today only has 25 full-time agency staff working in the hospital, down from a high of 180 during the pandemic. This is a place healthcare workers want to join and stay.
Our collaborative culture where team members thrive results in exceptional care for all, which is the core of our mission. Residents of Franklin County benefit from the nationally recognized care our teams provide, including:
- WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital recognized as one of America’s Top 50 Hospitals by Healthgrades.
- WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital named to Becker’s Healthcare list of the country’s 100 great community hospitals.
- WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital received an ‘A’ safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization.
As we work hand-in-hand with patients on their healthcare journey, we are committed to contributing to the wellbeing of the overall community and making an impact far beyond what happens during a health care visit.
- WellSpan has invested more than $279 million in Franklin County, expanding access to care through new facilities and services, including neurosciences, cancer care, heart care, imaging and outpatient services. We also have invested in technology to better support our patients and team members.
- In fiscal year 2023, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital contributed $412 million in economic impact, contributing significantly through taxes that help support the region’s and state’s economy.
- In all, the activities of WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital supported the regional economy with more than $759 million in total benefit.
We’re grateful to be part of the Chambersburg and Franklin County communities, and we are dedicated to continuing to make a positive impact in the care we provide, in the jobs we support and in the vitality of the broader community. A healthy, supported and engaged workforce is the cornerstone of our success, and we look forward to conversations over the next couple months to ensure a healthy future for Franklin County.
