CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners proudly presented the December 2023 Employee of the Month award to Jean Byers during the board’s Dec. 20 public meeting. Byers has been employed by Franklin County since August 1984 and serves as the chief deputy clerk in the commissioners’ office
December’s Employee of the Month recipient was determined by the Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Committee, which received 22 nominations for the December award, 11 of which were for Byers.
“Once again Jean superbly executed a Franklin County election in November,” said one nomination. “Jean leads a core team that expands to include dozens of employees across multiple departments who are deployed across the county over several weeks to conduct elections in Franklin County two times a year, each and every year. She has handled this enormous responsibility for decades with grace, professionalism, integrity and tact that is unparalleled. She does it so well and is so humble and modest that her recognition has gone unnoticed for too long.”
“Jean consistently, day after day, demonstrates kindness and compassion, not only to the general public and the elections officials that she regularly attends to, but also to the team that surrounds her,” said another colleague. “I have watched her diffuse very tense situations, always keeping her cool and expressing genuine concern. She has the innate ability to brainstorm solutions to nearly any issue that comes up and is always willing to help anyone, within the commissioners’ office or otherwise.”
The nomination continued, “Jean is an exemplary example of what the county stands for (compassion, acceptance, team work, service) and truly deserves to be recognized for her hard work and her countless contributions to the county. I can think of no one more deserving to be awarded Employee of the Month than Jean.”
Byers’ outstanding characteristics are attributes that have not gone unnoticed by her peers. Colleagues describe her as dedicated, integrous, calm, knowledgeable, kind, patient, committed and personable.
The Franklin County Commissioners congratulated Byers on her recognition and thanked her for her excellent work and for exuding such a high standard of knowledge, leadership and excellence to the employees and residents of Franklin County.
