WAYNESBORO – Buttonwood Nature Center is hosting “Afternoon with an Owl” at Pine Hill Recreation Area on Saturday, March 29, at 1:30 p.m. The program is part of their Naturalist Discovery Series. It is free and open to the public.
“This special program features Strix, the ‘Owl Ambassador’ from Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve,” said Mary Claire King, Buttonwood’s watershed science coordinator and the event organizer. “Barred owls like Strix are found in our area.”
Attendees will get to see Strix up close and learn all about the life of an owl from his naturalist-handler, Anne Gageby.
Gageby, the director of environmental education at Strawberry Hill, will talk about Strix and barred owls in general—the function of their special feathers, how they move, their diet and more. Questions are welcome.
Kids will enjoy creating an owl craft to take home.
