Buttonwood Nature Center Hosts 33rd Annual Earth Celebration Day

WAYNESBORO—Buttonwood Nature Center, Home of The Institute presents their 33rd Earth Celebration Day on Sat., April 27 at Pine Hill Recreation Area in Waynesboro, Pa. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.

The Recycle-Reuse Yard Sale Fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We are thrilled to welcome back our eco-friendly exhibitors and a full slate of activities,” said Jessica Watson, Buttonwood assistant director and event organizer. “We have live music, a guided StoryWalk® adventure, environmental artists and artisans, a student art show and so much more.”

Live music this year features Emily Martin & Friends. Based in the Washington DC region, Martin carries on her family tradition of playing, teaching and performing Old Time Appalachian traditional music and Irish music on the mandolin, mountain dulcimer, tenor banjo and voice, according to their website. The band will also perform interactive children’s music during the Earth Day event.

Paper shredding by OSI will be available from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Franklin Co. Commissioner Bob Ziobrowski will present an Earth Day Proclamation, and the annual Environmental Artistry Award will be presented to a local artist whose work celebrates nature.

The Recycle-Reuse Yard Sale Fundraiser includes a silent auction for decorative and functional bird houses, hand-painted by Waynesboro Area Senior High School Community Art program students.

“Attendees should bring some cash—in addition to the bird houses, we have great raffle items, a bake sale and a yard sale,” Watson said.

Have lunch in the park with food trucks, Grillbilly’s Smoke Wagon and J&M BBQ.
