SHIPPENSBURG – The community of Shippensburg gathered together to help raise awareness and unity at the fifth annual Better Together Festival which was sponsored by the Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition and held in the parking lot of Katie’s Place at 130 S. Penn St.
It was a beautiful early fall day and the weather was perfect for the gathering of several local community outreach programs and non-profit organizations for the Sept. 20 event. A few in attendance were the Shippensburg Lions Club, the Sadler Health Center, WellSpan Health, South Central Community Action Programs and the Early Learning Resource Center, just to name a few. There were also representatives from Shippensburg University and Penn State set up to meet with locals looking to further their or their family’s education.
In addition to the vendors, there were plenty of games and attractions for the kids in attendance. There was a ball bulls-eye game, giant Connect-Four, “Farmer for a Day” basket gathering game, face painting, and a visit to the On the Road Again Petting Zoo. The popular attraction featured a pony, goats, a cow, and even a Llama which seemed to like all the attention it was getting.
If you were hungry for a snack there were hot dogs on the grill, a variety of chips, and Italian Ice provided by Rita’s to help soothe the afternoon heat.
There was a good crowd of attendees for the three-hour event which helped raise awareness for great causes that have a direct impact on the local community.
