MEN’S BASKETBALL
Boonsboro 71, Smithsburg 89
Boonsboro had trouble facing the music of the Smithsburg quartet.
The Leopards’ Jacob Tyler struck the band with 32 points in Smithsburg’s 89-71 win over the Warriors.
Jaxon Teson supported Tyler with 18 points, while James Hare added 15 and Marquis Weakfall had 10 points with eight assists.
Tyler rounded out his outing with six rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Slippery Rock 70, Shepherd 61
In college sports, Guard Elwyne Wordlaw scored a game-high 23 points to lead Shepherd University. Still, it wasn’t enough to turn back Slippery Rock on Tuesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup.
Ike Herster topped Slippery Rock (9-1, 2-0) with 15 points.
The Rock had a 44-32 advantage at the break.
Guard Marcus Banks notched a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Rams (4-5, 1-2), hitting on 7-of-17 shots. Guard Brody Davis added 14 points, including four three pointers.
Forward Favor Okigweh grabbed eight boards and blocked a game-high three shots.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Slippery Rock 76, Shepherd 72
Alyssa Gillin scored a game-high 22 points on Tuesday to lead Slippery Rock to a 76-72 win over Shepherd University in PSAC matchup.
The Rams (2-5, 0-2) were led by forward Vilte Kacerauskaite with a career-high 17 points, including three three-point shots, and added three rebounds and two assists.
Shepherd led 70-68 after a layup by forward Jenna Liska with 2:37 remaining. The Rock closed the game on an 8-2 run to secure the win.
There were 10 ties and six lead changes in the game.
Guard Kara Wehner added 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while forward Lamaria Estridge posted 15 points and six rebounds.
Iyanna Wade added 14 points, 11 assists, seven boards and four blocks for Slippery Rock (4-4, 2-0).

Shepherd ranked 19th in final United Soccer Coaches poll
Shepherd University finished 19th in the final 2025 United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA II Women National Poll
The Rams completed the 2025 season with a 12-2-6 overall record with a 7-1-6 mark in conference play. The PSAC champions, Shepherd, advanced to the Atlantic Regional finals before dropping a 1-0 decision to West Chester.

Shepherd earns CSC Academic All-District Honors
Three Shepherd University players were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
The team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes on the court and in the classroom.
Libero Madigan Faircloth, middle hitter Rylee Lenz and outside hitter Amya Davis were honored.
Faircloth has a 3.72 grade point average as a nursing major. Her 375 digs led the team and was second with 39 aces. She added 75 assists.
Davis boasts a 4.0 grade point average as a nursing major. She recorded 286 kills and added 158 digs, a team-best 49 aces, 38 blocks (six solos) and six assists. Davis gained Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive season.
Lenz is a 4.0 nursing major, who recorded 179 kills. She added 106 blocks (23 solos), 16 digs and 12 assists. Lenz gained Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive season.
